Big Brother Mzansi Reunion: Bonni Bee Explains the “We Said What We Said” Moment

Another emotionally charged moment from the Big Brother Mzansi Reunion saw Bonni Bee revisiting one of the most controversial incidents from Big Brother Mzansi Season 5 (Umlilo), a moment that sparked widespread backlash on social media and intense debate among viewers.

Host Smash Afrika asked Bonni Bee to reflect on the incident and whether she would have handled it differently if given another chance. In response, Bonni Bee offered a candid explanation of what led to her use words, “Oksalayo, we said what we said.”

According to Bonni Bee, her and Ashley Ogle were being punished and publicly reprimanded, while the person involved in the situation, Kay B, continued to confront them aggressively. Bonni Bee admitted that she felt overwhelmed and irritated, especially after they had already apologised and were receiving punishment for their action.

She described feeling as though the situation had escalated beyond control, saying she was frustrated by what felt like constant confrontation despite having taken accountability. Bonni Bee went on to stress that she did, in fact, apologise sincerely to Kay B. She expressed confusion and frustration over why the conflict continued even after the apology, particularly while her and Ashley were still facing public criticism and in-game consequences. She acknowledged that her blunt nature often works against her, but insisted that her intentions were never malicious.

In her explanation, Bonni Bee emphasised that she tried to express empathy while also being honest about what she did and did not understand. She felt that admitting partial understanding was interpreted as a lack of compassion, which led to further condemnation.

For context, during Big Brother Mzansi Umlilo, Bonni Bee and Ashley Ogle were found guilty of malicious behaviour toward Kay B, who had previously shared trauma stemming from a rape incident in her infancy. Biggie issued both housemates with a strike, warning that two additional strikes would result in disqualification from the game.
